Advanced Model and Methodology Development

While all Engineering Simulation section activities apply advanced methods and models, some programs focus exclusively on increasing the accuracy and extending the range of applicability of engineering simulation tools. Most notable among these programs is the ongoing development and validation of advanced turbulent flow simulation options, including Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS).

The Engineering Simulation section strives to remain at the cutting edge of computational simulation capabilities. The section will continue to support the design, development, and optimization of new energy technologies as the nature of energy consumption and production changes around the world. Building upon the success of past and current programs, section activities will expand to include additional areas of application such as electrochemical process modeling, aerodynamic vehicle optimization, and analysis of biomedical engineering systems. As the understanding of complex heat transfer and fluid dynamics mechanisms expands, new knowledge will be incorporated into existing tools to insure that engineering simulations accurately reflect the behavior of increasingly complex real world systems.
